Lori Andrews, Director
Lori Andrews is a Distinguished Professor of Law at IIT Chicago-Kent and Director of the Institute for Science, Law & Technology (ISLAT). Named one of National Law Journal’s “100 Most Influential Lawyers in America,” Professor Andrews has been involved in setting policies for genetic and reproductive technologies both in the U.S. and abroad. She also has written a series of genetic thrillers, Sequence, The Silent Assassin and Immunity. She earned a B.A. from Yale College and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
Julie Burger, Director of Research & Projects
Julie Burger is the Director of Research & Projects at ISLAT. Her current areas of interest include the social, legal and ethical implications of emerging technologies including nanotechnology, assisted reproduction, genetics and cloning. She also undertakes research on the public policy aspects of intellectual property. Julie earned her B.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University and her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Jake Meyer, Legal Fellow
Jake Meyer joined the ISLAT team in October 2008 as a Legal Research Fellow. Already possessing a strong science background, his areas of interest include the intellectual property system and its implications for emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and genetics. Jake holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from DePaul College of Law.
Tim Welch, Executive Administrative Assistant
Tim graduated from Northwestern University in June 2008 with a B.A. in Economics and German language. He is currently taking a year off from his studies to gain experience in the field of law. He is interested in international law, specifically international health care issues and social policy. Tim plans to attend law school in September 2009.
